The Malta National Bicycle Ride will be held this Sunday, the 21st of September on Independence Day. This is a new annual event which will be included in Malta’s national calendar and will be held on this date every year.

The event is organised under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Malta. Registration for this event is a donation of €10 in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund.

Registration will open on the day at 3.00pm at the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure’s car park in Belt is-Sebh, Floriana.On registration, participants will be presented with a commemorative t-shirt and through their registration they will also participate in a lottery giving them the chance to win one of three pedelecs (bicycles where the rider’s pedalling is assisted by a small electric motor).

The bicycle ride will leave at 4.00pm from the same car park. Cyclists will be accompanied by a fleet of electric vehicles while passing through several locations until the route reaches its end at 6..00pm at St George’s Square, Valletta where Presdient Marie Louise Coleiro Preca will address the participants and present the prizes to the winners.

Reserved parking for participants will be made available at the Car Park next to the Ministry for Transport and Infrastructure. Participants are required to wear helmets.
