Easter Egg-citement at Is-Simar Nature Reserve on SaturdayThis Saturday, to celebrate Easter and the arrival of some of Malta’s breeding birds that will spend the summer rearing their chicks in the protected wetland, BirdLife Malta and Bank of Valletta are organising a breeding birds themed Easter-egg-hunt at Is-Simar Nature Reserve, in Xemxija.

The reserve will be open from 10.00am to 4.00pm, and a special Nature Discovery Trail for budding young nature detectives will take children on a clue-following adventure to discover the abundant wildlife found in the reserve in the spring, from chameleons and Cetti’s Warblers, to Moorhens and Coots.

There will be a chocolate Easter Egg Hunt at 11.00am in front of the reserve for children with a sweet tooth aged three to 13, price €5, as well as mural painting and bird origami!

And a picnic area for families and friend who just want to sit and relax and enjoy the spring sunshine with food and drink while the kids enjoy the reserve.

Is-Simar Nature Reserve is one of only two wetland reserves on the Maltese Islands, and is home to lots of native wildlife, including snakes, killifish and many species of bird. It is the only place in Malta where Coots and Little Grebes are known to breed, and this year Coot chicks have already hatched. The reserve offers the perfect setting for those seeking the opportunity to enjoy Maltese wildlife up-close and in full protection.
