Malta Public Transport has announced that bus services from Marsaxlokk to Valletta and from Bugibba to Valletta, Bugibba to Sliema and Bugibba to Cirekwwa will be extended on Friday, the 25th and Saturday, the 26th of April for the benefit of commuters wishing to attend the Malta Fireworks Festival activities held this year in Marsaxlokk, Bugibba and Valletta.
On Friday 25th – the first day of the Festival – services on Route 81 from Marsaxlokk to Valletta will continue running until 2330hrs, providing transport options to commuters following the last pyrotechnic show of the night. While on Friday a number of roads will be closed to traffic in Marsaxlokk, buses on Route 81 will be boarding and alighting passengers by the Marsaxlokk primary school (the closes possible to main festival area).
Similarly, on Saturday 26th buses from Bugibba on Route 45 towards Valletta, Route 12 to Sliema and Route 221 to Cirkewwa will also be extended beyond their normal schedules until 2330hrs, taking commuters back home after the pyrotechnic shows.
The extra bus trips on both nights of the fireworks festival will be available at normal bus rates and bus commuters who already own a valid bus ticket or valid saver card, can use them to travel to and from the festival on any of the extended services.
On Wednesday 30th April – the final day of the festival – commuters will benefit from the bus services on all direct routes to and from Valletta, and also have the option to use Floriana’s Park & Ride services, which will be available till late at the price of €0.40 per car, including the shuttle service to Valletta for the driver and passengers. A special night service will also be available on the night.
“In collaboration with the Malta Tourism Authority, we have decided to operate these extended services because year after year the Malta Fireworks Festival remains amongst the most popular events in our cultural calendar and on all three nights of the spectacle many of the myriad people attending use public transport to avoid the stress of traffic congestion and parking,” said Malta Public Transport.
