'Marathon Run' in aid of Ocean Protection focusing on looking after our seasBubbles Dive Centre in Marsalforn said that they usually help the sea around them by diving for debris during every dive, however, this coming Saturday afternoon, the 26th of July 2014, two members of their team will be providing help in a different way, when they complete a sponsored run around the island of Gozo in aid of Ocean Protection.'Marathon Run' in aid of Ocean Protection focusing on looking after our seasSean Cooper, Divemaster and Luke Kidney, Divemaster Trainee, will be running over 42km (the equivalent of a marathon). Starting from Marsalforn the route will take them through Xaghra, Nadur, Qala, Mgarr, Sannat, Munxar, San Lawrenz, Gharb and Zebbug, incorporating a total ascent of over 750 feet and they expect the run to take 5-6 hours.

Sean Cooper, who is 19-years old said, “we’ve been in training since we arrived in Gozo at the start of the summer and are confident we will complete the run to raise as much money as possible for the protection of our oceans.”

Luke Kidney, who will celebrate his 23rd birthday on the day of the run, said, “if we can raise awareness of marine conservation by doing this run then all the aches and pains that follow will be worth it!”

During the run, Sean and Luke will be followed by a Bubbles Dive Centre vehicle carrying supplies of water and much needed vocal encouragement.

David Hayler-Montague, owner of Bubbles Dive Centre said, “our dive centre is committed to improving the marine environment for everyone and this is a central theme of our training programmes and it is wonderful to see our team embrace this philosophy. Their efforts are truly outstanding and we are very proud of them.”

If anyone would like to sponsor Sean and Luke please go to www.justgiving.com/lukeseanbubblesrun to make a donation or contact Bubbles Dive Centre at info@diving-gozo.com or call on 2702 8299.

The Centre said that “any support that can be provided will be greatly appreciated and all donations will be given to Project AWARE – a registered non-profit organisation, which encourages the world’s divers to protect our ocean planet – one dive at a time.”
