As part of the celebrations on the 10th anniversary since Malta’s accession to the EU, Heritage Malta will be opening its museums and sites for free on Thursday, the 1st of May.

In Gozo these will be the Museum of Archaeology, the Folklore Museum, the Gozo Nature Museum, the Old Prison (Citadel, Victoria), Ta’ Kola Windmill and Ggantija Temples (Xaghra).

The exception for this offer by Heritage Malta will be the Hal Saflieni Hypogeum, Ta’ Hagrat and Skorba Temples in Malta, due to restrictions and sensitivity of the sites.

The sites which will be open in Malta are St Paul’s Catacombs, the Domvs Romana (Rabat), the National Museum of Natural History (Mdina), the National Museum of Fine Arts, the National Museum of Archaeology, the National War Museum, the Palace Armoury and State Rooms (Valletta), the Malta Maritime Museum and Inquisitor’s Palace (Vittoriosa), Ghar Dalam Cave (Birzebbuga), Hagar Qim and Mnajdra Temples (Qrendi) and Tarxien Temples.

Merchandise and membership will be available at special prices from most sites.

Another highlight of the 1st May Open day is the exhibition “Malta, the great story of a small island-nation through 100 objects” at the National Museum of Archaeology.

The exhibition takes the visitor on a discovery trip, reaching back to the geological formation of the Maltese Islands 35 million years ago until the milestone constitutional achievements of the past 50 years.
