Classique Foundation's Grand Operatic Concert 2014 at the AuroraThe Teatru tal-Opra Aurora, Gozo, has announced that it will once again be hosting the Classique Foundation (c. 2000) as it presents The Grand Operatic Concert 2014, featuring two internationally-renowned singers and the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of the music/artistic director and mentor of the Foundation, Joseph Debrincat.

The Classique Foundation has once again engaged the services of two internationally-renowned singers, soprano Norma Fantini and tenor Luciano Ganci – both of whom are household names at important opera houses such as the Metropolitan Opera House (New York), ROH Covent Garden (London), Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna), Deutsche Staatsoper (Berlin), Gran Teatre del Liceu (Barcelona), Mariinsky Theatre (St. Petersburg) and Teatro alla Scala (Milan) apart from the major houses in San Francisco, Tel Aviv, Tokyo, Las Palmas, Rome, Florence, Parma, Turin, Macerata, and Palermo.

Presumably, the birth of opera is one of the most exceptional and revolutionary events that ever happened to the arts – not only music. It is a unique fusion of several art forms. It is where music marries poetry, singing intermingles with acting and dance, and costumes blend with scenery. The offspring is a theatre experience with outstandingly powerful excitement and emotions.

Since its introduction in Florence by the so-called Florentine Camerata around 1600, opera has travelled and migrated across the continents. Against all odds, with competing forms of entertainment and theatre-bills continuously spiralling upwards, opera remains a powerful and much-sought form of musical theatre.

It was not an easy task for the organisers to select and shortlist immortal favourites into an appealing programme. With the heartfelt input of administration and performers, the programme line-up is set to include arias and duets from the most popular operas by Verdi, Puccini, Catalani, Boito, Ponchielli, and Donizetti amongst others. It will also feature overtures, ballet music and instrumental numbers from the operatic repertoire.

The Classique Foundation is a non-profitable cultural organisation that aims to promote music culture in the Maltese Islands by organising regular concerts. In doing so, the Foundation encourages and promotes local artists, especially up-and-coming ones. It is funded, completely and solely by local institutions who contribute in no small measure towards the realisation of its programme of events.

The main objective of the foundation is not to make profit out of its activities, but rather to promote culture in the Maltese islands. Hence, tickets are priced €15 & €10.

Tickets are now out on sale, from the Aurora Box Office (+356 21559452), via helplines (grandoc2014@gmail.com), (+356) 7953 8846, (+356) 7955 1871, or online here.
