Ggantija hosts the first President's Ball to be held in Gozo“This is a Presidency that will give visibility to Gozo.” President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, stated this last night during the first President’s Ball held in Gozo.

The Ball was held at the Ggantija Temples, and the President thanked everyone present, saying that the dream of organising national activities in Gozo in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund, has now become a reality.

She explained that the Ball will give visibility to island and served as a promotion of this world heritage site Ggantija, which is the oldest freestanding structure in the world.

The President of Malta said that this hidden heritage cannot only be left for visitors to view during the day, but this UNESCO world site deserves a decent promotion for entrusting and educational and historical experience.

During her address, President Coleiro Preca said that the prevalence of cancer is increasing and these activities organised in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund are helping to increase this national fund.

A number of groups participated during the Ball providing an example that best explained the identity, characteristics and traditions of Gozo. Among these groups were the Astra folk group, Mnarja Folk group, l-Ghaqda Folklor Xaghri, Aurora Folk Group and the Xaghra Historical Reenactment Organisation.

Catermax was responsible for the catering at the Ball, while Maltese patrons who attended the evening crossed to Gozo free of charge on a boat provided by Captain Morgan Cruises.
