2nd Gozo Consultation meeting held for residents in elderly care homesThe consultation process on the National Minimum Standards for homes for the elderly, continued today when the Parliamentary Secretary for the Rights of Persons with Disability and Active Ageing, Dr Justyne Caruana visited the Santa Anna Residence Ward at the Gozo General Hospital.

Dr Justyne Caruana explained that aim of these meetings is to give residents the chance to put their ideas forward on a National Standard for Residences for the Elderly, which ultimately will benefit the residents themselves.

The main purpose of these standards is that the elderly residents participate fully in the drafting of a care plan based on the personal needs of each person, with full respect for their dignity. Above all to have a Residential Home that provides a good quality service and care.

During the consultation both residents and the staff of Santa Anna had the chance to put their suggestions forward-

The Parliamentary Secretary also mentioned the Freephone service which has been set up by the Secretariat with a view to making it easier for residents in homes for the elderly, or their relatives, to make a complaint.. The Freephone number is 8007 2367.
